In recent months and years clients are increasing their scrutiny of their pet’s vaccination schedule.
Questions are arising about the long-term safety of their frequent use and possible long-term detriment
to their dog or cat’s longevity and quality of life. Questions remain unanswered at this point about the
role of vaccination in the cause of autoimmune diseases, allergies, arthritis, cancer, and neurologic
health in our aging pets.
While we cannot answer all of these questions at Aliso Beach Animal Clinic, we are committed to
providing the highest quality, patient centered care with complete integrity.
One way to ensure that we’re not over vaccinating a pet is through the use of vaccination titers.
Vaccination titers are the measure of your pet’s immunity to a specific disease. For example, we use
titers to measure your pet’s immune cells and determine if your pet is truly in need of annual
vaccination for a virus such as distemper.
While typical western medical vaccination programs give boosters every 1-3 years, a titer may help
determine that a single vaccination may last up to 7 years, thus reducing the influx of adjuvant and
elemental preservatives injected into your pet.
Please call us and ask the doctor at your exam if titers are right for your pet.
